Buenos Aires, January 31 (NA) -- Two days after the death of Rocío Aylén Alvarito, the 26-year-old woman who fell from a second-floor building in La Plata while trying to escape her boyfriend's attack, the only detainee in the case, her partner Marcos Ariel García, testified before prosecutor Álvaro Garganta. García admitted they had an argument but denied responsibility for her death. According to his testimony, the young woman jumped from the balcony of her own accord and he tried to stop her. The incident occurred in the apartment the couple shared on Diagonal 76 and 22, in the La Loma neighborhood of La Plata. During his statement, García showed emotion, broke down in tears before the prosecutor, and stated that he had not eaten or slept for over 30 hours since the incident, according to the Argentine News Agency. According to his version, during the argument he tried to prevent Alvarito from jumping from the second floor, but he claimed that she pushed him and then fell. He also assured that after the fact, he went out shouting to ask neighbors for help and to call the police. The defendant stated that he will expand his statement when he is in better emotional condition. Meanwhile, the defense indicated that there were no prior complaints for gender-based violence and no injuries compatible with physical aggression by García towards the victim were detected. The case file already includes testimonies from neighbors, medical reports from SAME, which transferred the young woman to the Rossi Hospital, where she finally died, and the autopsy report. With these elements, the legal classification could be changed to 'abandonment of person followed by death', although the final definition will depend on the progress of the expert investigations and the evidence gathered.
